One of the most popular books that Art published was Identity and Anxiety - a colleciton of essays edited with his colleagues Maurie Stein and David Manning White. Published in 1960, it was a popular book that was featured in many book clubs and in numerous New York Times advertisements.
Many of Art's dearest friends provided editorial critiques of these essays including Franz Von Lichtenberg, a medical professor at Harvard Medical School, Warren Paley one of his college and life long friends and Joseph Freeman one of his best friends from college and the Marine Corps days.
Art never lost touch with his friends and this book was one that bound him to Maurce Stein for the rest of his life.
