Vidich and Bensman - A Rare Collaboration Captured in Pictures

Arthur Vidich and Joseph Bensman worked together on many books over a period of over twenty five years. This extraordinary collaboration brought together two men whose sociological skills worked seamlessly together to create some of the most important critiques of American society in the twentieth century.  These rare photos of them working together were taken by Paul Vidich, Arthur Vidich's son, when the two men were completing the final manuscript for American Society - The Welfare State and Beyond.  Their sense of comradeship and ability to work together was much admired by his family and many of his students.

While they were highly disciplined researchers and writers they also knew how to enjoy each other's company as is clearly seen in this series of photos taken one evening while they took a break from the final editing work on their manuscript. These photos were taken at Arthur's home at 40 Beford Street in Greenwich Village circa 1974.
